Pay Rate: £19.19 per hour PAYE

The Role
We are recruiting for two part-time Police Investigation Officers to work within a Professional Standards Department in Lytham St Annes.
This is a specialist investigative role suited to an experienced PIP2 investigator with a strong background in serious and complex crime and advanced suspect or witness interviewing.
Essential Requirements
Please only apply if you meet ALL of the following:
- PIP2 qualified and accredited
- Tier 3 trained/qualified in suspect or witness interviewing
- Demonstrable experience investigating serious and complex crime
- Experience conducting interviews with suspects, victims and significant witnesses
- Strong knowledge of investigative procedures and evidence gathering
- Experience preparing comprehensive investigation reports and case files
- Knowledge of PACE and CPIA 1996, including disclosure requirements
- Full UK manual driving licence
- Willingness to undergo appropriate vetting
Candidates without PIP2 accreditation, Tier 3 suspect/witness interviewing and complex crime investigation experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
As a Police Investigation Officer, you will manage and participate in a wide range of evidence-gathering and investigative activities, ensuring evidence is properly identified, secured, recorded and preserved.
You will take responsibility for investigations from initial enquiries through to completion, working with internal departments and external agencies where required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting serious and complex criminal investigations
- Acting as the officer in case and managing your own investigative workload
- Conducting investigative enquiries and responding to incidents and intelligence
- Securing, preserving and gathering evidence
- Conducting Tier 3 suspect and witness interviews
- Interviewing victims and obtaining detailed statements
- Gathering and assessing critical evidence
- Preparing comprehensive investigation reports and case files
- Presenting evidence to the CPS and at court
- Supporting victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process
- Managing and progressing complaints, appeals and misconduct-related investigations
- Liaising with complainants and members of the public professionally and sensitively
- Using police databases and investigative systems to research and maintain accurate records
- Providing investigative advice, guidance and support to colleagues
- Working collaboratively with other departments and partner agencies
- Supporting priority and volume crime investigations where required
- Maintaining strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Travelling on business when required
About You
We are looking for an experienced investigator who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience of serious and complex crime investigations
- Strong investigative decision-making and analytical skills
- Advanced interviewing experience
- The ability to obtain and assess evidence effectively
- Experience managing complex caseloads independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to deal confidently with difficult and sensitive situations
- Strong knowledge of the criminal justice system
- The ability to work with minimal supervision
- A professional, methodical and organised approach
- High levels of integrity and professionalism
You will also be expected to demonstrate the relevant Competency and Values Framework (CVF) Level 2 behaviours, including emotional awareness, taking ownership, collaboration, delivery and support, critical analysis, and being innovative and open-minded.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- PIP2 qualified and accredited
- Tier 3 suspect or witness interviewing qualification
- Proven experience investigating serious and complex crime
- Experience interviewing suspects, victims and significant witnesses
- Knowledge and practical understanding of PACE
- Knowledge and practical understanding of CPIA and disclosure
- Experience producing detailed investigation reports and case files
- Experience using police databases and investigative systems
- Experience working with members of the public
- Experience dealing with difficult or sensitive situations
- Full UK manual driving licence
- Ability to travel on business when required
- Successful completion of appropriate vetting
Desirable
- National Investigators' Examination (NIE)
- Previous Professional Standards experience
- Experience investigating allegations of misconduct
- Experience providing investigative guidance, support or mentoring to colleagues
