As an experienced and highly capable Investigator you will support international law enforcement agencies in delivering high-quality, real-time investigations into serious and complex crimes.
This role operates on a 70/30 split: 70% is dedicated to direct operational investigative delivery, and 30% to capability building, providing mentoring, coaching, and professional development support to local investigators and agency staff.
This dual-function model is central to RSMS’s mission to build sustainable, locally-led investigative capacity alongside immediate operational impact.

What You'll Do
- Conduct investigations into serious and complex crimes, including homicide, violent crime, and serious organised crime.
- Manage caseloads, ensuring all enquiries and actions are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Build and prepare comprehensive court case files, ensuring investigative continuity from initiation to prosecution.
- Support prosecuting authorities by collating evidence from multiple sources and formats.
- Provide evidence in court as a case officer and witness when required.
- Prioritise and manage workloads in line with operational demands and capacity.
- Participate in operational activity including arrests, searches, seizure of property, and evidential processing.
- Interview witnesses, victims, and suspects; take statements and conduct follow-up enquiries.
- Support witness management and provide guidance throughout the criminal justice process.
- Ensure all investigations are progressed in a timely manner, meeting criminal justice deadlines.
- Handle, document, and store exhibits and disclosable materials in accordance with legislation and procedures.
- Maintain a strong understanding of disclosure obligations and data protection requirements.
Capability Building and Mentoring (30% of Role)
- Mentor and coach local investigators and agency staff, transferring investigative knowledge, skills, and professional standards to build long-term in-country capacity.
- Provide structured on-the-job support to less experienced officers working on live investigations, modelling best practice in evidence gathering, case management, and court preparation.
- Deliver or contribute to structured learning inputs, briefings, and professional development sessions tailored to the agency’s capability needs and operational context.
- Identify individual and organisational development needs, and report progress and outcomes to the RSMS lead, contributing to capability assessments and programme reporting.
- Build a culture of continuous improvement, professional integrity, and evidence-based investigative practice within the host agency.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications Required
- PIP 2 qualification or equivalent investigative experience with documented evidence of skills.
- Recent experience in homicide, serious and complex crime investigations.
- Strong understanding of PACE, RIPA, and relevant police legislation.
- Proven ability to manage investigations from start to finish, including case building and court preparation.
- Experience in giving evidence in court as both a case officer and witness.
- Ability to manage multiple investigations and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Skilled in operational procedures including arrests, searches, and evidence handling.
- Experience in interviewing and supporting witnesses and victims.
- Knowledge of legislation and procedures for handling exhibits and disclosable materials.
- Solid understanding of disclosure and data protection
- Demonstrable experience in mentoring, coaching, or training less experienced investigators or police officers, with the ability to transfer complex investigative skills in an operational context.
- Confidence in delivering structured professional development inputs and adapting communication style to varying levels of experience and cultural contexts.
